CALLINGTON Carnival was held during a rare dry afternoon of a waterlogged summer much to the organisers' relief on Saturday and all the colour and spectacle of one of the town's best events of the year was enjoyed by many who lined the streets.
There were floats and walkers a-plenty and pirate-clad town councillors, leading town figures and organisers, some aboard the carnival boat which was built for the occasion.
The best junior and overall float went to Flying Start nursery at Stoke Climsland and Dimson Day Nursery at Gunnislake won the walking children entry, both with animal themes.
Callington Twinning Association won best adult float with their 30th anniversary exhibit and Jane's Florist and her Pannier Market Posse of Royal Family lookalikes took the best adult walker prize.
Town councillor Denise Winfindale who is on the organising committee said the event had gone exceptionally well.
'The committee works really hard throughout the year and we were so pleased the weather was kind to us,' she said.
'But we would not be able to put on this event without the local farmers and young farmers who provide the trailers and give up their time.'
