MORE than 550 young people were involved in a mass celebration of sport at the Caradon Youth games competition at Callington Community College.
All secondary schools in the Caradon district were involved in the competition. This was the seventh year that the games have run and this year seven different competitions lead into the Cornwall Schools Games in June.
Competitions included cyclo cross, street surfing, girls' football, rugby sevens, rounders, fencing, table tennis, tennis and badminton.
Rob Francis, competition manager for the Callington School Sport Partnership said: 'With the new and exciting sports there is something for everyone. We have listened to what the pupils want and tailored the sports towards this. Seven of the 14 sports qualify through to the new Cornwall Schools Games, therefore providing excellent levels of competitions. It was a great day, with each school winning at least one competition!'
The hosts Callington were among the winners; the college won the year 8 rounders while pupil Ross Millar was among the winners in the Y7/8 tennis as was Tamsin Sandy in the Year 9/10 tennis; Becky Ives enjoyed success in the Year 7/8 badminton as did Chloe Binding in the Year 9/10. Callington also won the Year 8/9 cyclo cross.
