OKEHAMPTON College is among the organisations to benefit from the latest round of grants by Okehampton United Charity and Okehampton Educational Foundation.

The college has been given £96,000 to put towards new computers which were installed over the summer months.

OUC chairman Derek Webber was recently at the college to present the cheque to principal Darryl Chapman and some of the school's sixth form students.

They have also been allocated an additional £20,000 towards the 'cashless catering' system being introduced in the school cafeteria in November, and their usual allocation, which following these grants has been reduced to £18,000.

At their last meeting, Okehampton United Charity decided to donate £40,000 to the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team to contribute to the purchase of the team's new centre on the Exeter Road Industrial Estate.

And £9,000 was donated to West Devon Citizens' Advice Bureau to help with their ongoing running costs. Time for Life received £952 to publicise groups already running at Castle Ham Lodge, and to start memory reminiscence groups.

Trustees of Okehampton Educational Foundation have agreed 81 individual grants totalling approximately £69,000 over the year to support students residing within Okehampton and its hamlets to continue with further education.

An allocation of £17,000 for Okehampton Primary School is also being held for when a project is put forward to them.

The OUC and Okehampton Educational Foundation provide grants to local organisations, schools and people to provide charitable benefits to the residents of Okehampton.
