A STUDY support system at Callington Community College is being used as an example to other schools in the South West.

Callington Community College has become one of the first schools in the country to have its status as a Centre of Advanced Excellence in Study Support revalidated by the Government body, Quality in Study Support (QISS).

Over the course of a day recently, staff and students of the college showcased all that is excellent in extra-curricular activity, international links, after-school and weekend clubs and Callington's very own study support initiative, the Personal Enhancement Programme (PEP).

The validation process involved guests from the local community, including Portreeve Richard Lumley and out of hours learning teachers and specialists from around the county and country, analysing and evaluating Callington's evidence.

The college is proud of its study support, out of hours learning and extra curricular activities, seeing them as at the core of student learning at the college.

On the day, Callington's evidence was largely shaped by drama teacher Jonathon Plunkett and Karen Gold, wider curriculum co-ordinator. The visitors to the college were impressed by the friendliness and confidence of the college's students.

Callington will now be used as an example for other schools and establishments around the South West as they seek recognition by QISS.
