ON a wet day and a heavy surface Tavistock College had six runners in the Devon Schools Cross Country Championships representing West Devon.

The best result was achieved by Tess Osborne, who finished fourth in the Year 7 girls? competition. She will now go on to represent Devon in the South West and possibly the National Cross Country Championships. This is a considerable achievement considering Tess does not even run for a club! Tess also helped West Devon to win the team event.

The other girls involved in the event had mixed fortunes. Sammy Langdon did not finish in the junior girls (Year 8-9) event because of bad stitch. Louise Elsworth finished 32nd and Ellie Tattershall ran determinedly to reach 42nd in the Intermediate girls? competition which had the biggest field of the day.

The two boys running in the intermediate boys? event did well to be in the top half of a very experienced competitive field. Adam Holland ran to a good 13th place even though he also suffered stitch. Adam Tofield finished a creditable 27th.
