CALLINGTON Community College is celebrating after students achieved the best set of A-level and GCSE results in its history.
Headteacher Gary Lobbett said the results were 'outstanding' and a direct reflection of the dedication and commitment of the staff and the positive attitude and hard work of the students.
Some 99% of A-level students achieved a pass grade and one in four of all grades were A* or A. The percentage of A* to B grades improved by a further 20% on the previous year.
In their 2010 GCSE or equivalent examinations, 86% of all students achieved five or more A* to C grades and the achievement of boys rose from 75% to 91%. The college said it was also especially pleased that in GCSE boys' average points improved by a further 12%.
Exceptional results were achieved in engineering, mathematics, art and construction at GCSE level, said the college.
Following the publication of the GCSE results on Tuesday, Mr Lobbett also praised the high level of support from parents: 'These are absolutely outstanding results.
'Many of our young people have met and surpassed their challenging personal targets and goals.
I am very proud of the achievements of all our students and the teaching and support teams at the college who guide and encourage students throughout the year. Congratulations to everyone involved.'
He said he was also delighted that A and A2-level pass rates had risen again at the college.
Students Aislyn Taylor and Isabelle Coombes both achieved 12 A* and A grades at GCSE level, Ellen Chaplin gained four A*, six A grades and one B grade, Jessica Cox six A* grades, three A grades and three B grades, Malcolm Szuplewski eight A* and A grades, and Corinna Taylor six A* and A grades and four B grades.
The top performer at A-level was Violet Taylor, who achieved two A*s and three A grades.
Mary Webster, gained an A*, two As and two B grades, and Katie Crowell, achieved three As and two B grades — both begin their studies at medical school in September. Anna Hutchinson achieved two As and two Bs.
The college said all students going onto university had got into the universities of their choice. Mr Lobbett added: 'Callington enjoys a national reputation for excellence. I wish all our students every success as they progress further in their education or chosen careers.'
