North Tawton . . . . . . 7
Dartmouth . . . . . . . .61
NORTH Tawton took on third placed Dartmouth in the league on a cold and bitter February day.
But it was Dartmouth who warmed up the quicker and soon began putting the heat on the home side.
It was an evenly contested game for the first quarter and it looked as though North Tawton might hold the visitors and winning was not beyond them.
But when North Tawton let wing forward John Beckley in for the first try against them the flood gates were opened and some impressive back play by the visitors saw some well worked moves and tries by Dartmouth.
To the fore was centre Prettyjohns who collected a hat-trick.
By the half-time break North Tawton were 28-0 points down.
After the interval North Tawton's spirit rallied well and they put the visitors under considerable pressure, but when you are struggling nothing seems to go your way and a couple of break-out tries left North Tawton wondering what else they could do.
Captain Neil Peters had a great game in the lineout and it was from one of his takes some good forward drives led ever improving Gary Dennis to put his fellow forward Andy Pyle for a well deserved try.
However, by this time the game was over and to add to their problems Andy Fewings was injured in the ribs and substituted by Steve Hall.
However North Tawton again applied more pressure but it was to no avail and Dartmouth ran out convincing winners to move into second place in the league.
North Tawton are looking for a friendly game this weekend, home or away.
