A COMMUNITY fundraising event will take place this weekend, to help provide vital financial support to the Brownie and Girl Guide packs in Okehampton. The event, a drop-in coffee morning, will take place in Okehampton's Charter Hall on Saturday April 5, starting at 9am and running until noon. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the town's Brownies and Guides to help them as they attempt to raise funds for a new meeting hut. Tea and coffee will be available alongside cakes and bric-a-brac which will be on sale. The event has been organised by Mel Stride, the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Central Devon, and by Okehampton's town, borough and county councillor Christine Marsh. Mr Stride said: 'The Brownies and Guides are really important groups for our town, typically opening up a wide range of different opportunities and experiences for the girls, many of which will last a lifetime. 'I firmly believe in the importance of local volunteering activity and the Brownies and Guides are one of the best examples of this.' The coffee morning is open to all.
