OKEHAMPTON Rugby Football Club is celebrating after receiving a cash windfall following a recent fundraising event.
A drop-in coffee-morning, held at Okehampton's Charter Hall, raised around £170 for the club.
The event was hosted by prospective parliamentary candidate for the Conservatives, Mel Stride, Okehampton county councillor Christine Marsh and newly elected town councillor Adrian Raymond, who has been actively involved in the running of the club.
Those who attended the event enjoyed tea and coffee, while cakes and bric-a-brac were also on sale.
All proceeds from the event have been donated to the Okehampton Rugby Club, to go towards the continued running costs of the club.
Mr Stride said: 'I was particularly keen to help out our local rugby club.
'I strongly believe in the importance of competitive sport for youngsters and the money raised will go towards encouraging junior rugby in our town.'
Adrian Raymond added: 'This is a very worthwhile cause and it is great that we have raised a significant amount of money on behalf of the club.'
