OKEHAMPTON Running Club's Philippa Allom and Roger Voaden completed The Eden Project Marathon on October 10.
Following a successful debut year last year this year's race was well attended by some 1,500 runners who were blessed with sunny weather. Starting from this iconic Cornish attraction runners could participate in either a half or full marathon covering some tough and often demanding terrain.
Philippa, who finished in 4:44:49 said: 'The race was brilliantly organised and marshalled by Saltash Running Club and the Eden Team. I was especially pleased to finish feeling strong to the end after having to pull out before the race last year due to illness.
'The support and encouragement from Okehampton Running Club did much to help me prepare for this race.'
Roger Voaden finished in 3:23:56 and achieved 13th position overall. Only a week later he completed the Dartmoor Vale Marathon in 3:37:15 jointly with fellow club runner David Mugliston. The race, now in its eighth year started at Sibelco UK, Newton Abbot, close to the race course. Dartmoor Vale also holds a marathon, half marathon and 10K distance races.
Conditions were excellent for the undulating course taking in beautiful views of the Teign Valley. ORC's Andy Vallance took part in the 10K race, finishing in sixth position overall and third senior male in 0:36:24. Club runners to complete the half marathon included: Bryan Friend 1:29:15, Kirstin Phippard 1:44:03, Matt Bates 1:44:26, Greg Miller 1:46:20 and David Way 1:57:05.
