A CHEQUE was presented to BBC Radio Devon presenter Matt Woodley towards the station's Chestnut Appeal, on behalf of Okehampton Simmons Bowling Club, following the club's annual dinner and trophy presentation.

Friends and members of the bowling club met recently for their annual dinner and dance at the Conservative Club hall in Okehampton.

After a superb meal, captain Mr J Mills thanked everyone who had supported the club during the past year, and congratulated those who had achieved good results.

Among these were Pam Jones and Betty Letchford who reached the county quarter finals of the over-55 ladies pairs.

The pair were then joined by Ellen Crispin to reach the section final of the county triples. Jean Hutchings reached the section final of the treasurers/captain/secretaries competition.

The men's section finished as runners-up in the 71 Challenge Shield trophy, while in the county trophy they narrowly lost in the section final.

The over-60 'A' team narrowly missed out on promotion while the over-60 'B' team gained promotion and will now play in the same league as the 'A' team.

The club championship trophies were presented to Pam Jones and John Westlake by Matt Woodley and his wife Stevie.

Others presented with trophies were Meri Cox, Pete Wellman, John Rose, Gill Hollis, Richard Curtis, Marj Payne, Don Phare, Bill Jones, Jean Hutchings, Ellen Crispin, Norman Reeder, John Tucker, Ben Pook, Brian Vernon, Pat Fisher, Betty Letchford, Ron King, Colin Hutchings, Arthur Smith, Tony Crispin and John Bliss.
