A DAY centre in Okehampton could benefit from your old clothes with a new recycling scheme.

Poppy Day Centre, based at Wardhayes Care Home, is taking part in the 'Rag Bag' recycling scheme, which collects clothes to recycle, avoiding the use of landfill sites.

Approximately 1.75-million tonnes of clothing waste is produced in the UK every year, with around 1.2-million tonnes of that sent to landfill. The scheme is designed to help the environment and provide good quality clothing for people living in some of the poorest nations in the world.

The scheme is completely free, and for every kilogram of clothes the centre donates, they will get money to put into the Poppy Day Centre Comforts Fund. They are hoping to raise £100 in the next 12 months through the scheme.

The centre can accept all men's, ladies' and children's clothing, paired shoes, hangbags, belts, ties, soft toys and household textiles.
