CHAIRMAN of Devon County Council Cllr Christine Marsh this week stressed that Okehampton residents will still be able to come to the town during the forthcoming road closures.

In particular, Cllr Marsh emphasised that one lane on East Street will remain open, while one lane is closed for five days from Monday, August 2.

It will follow the closure of Mill Road on Sunday, August 1, which will be closed for one day only.

Cllr Marsh said it would be a one way, circular traffic system.

She said: 'For people going up to Exeter from Okehampton, they will have to go up Crediton Road, turn right and go to Barton Road and then left on to Exeter Road.

'At least one lane won't be closed and it's work that has to be done.'

Cllr Marsh said the work was being carried out with the least disturbance as possible.

She added: 'People can still come into Okehampton, it will be no more than when it's closed for Edwardian Evening.'
