LIKE their 1st XI counterparts, Yelverton 2nd XIs Devon Cricket League fixture at Axminster fell victim to the weather on Saturday and was cancelled without a ball being bowled.
Yelverton U13 Typhoons v Lewdown U13s
Yelverton U13s recorded a narrow five run victory at a warm and sunny Langton Park last week. Asked to bat first, Yelverton lost Jay Warner early on for 11, but then Ben Pearson and skipper James Douie put on 88 for the second wicket before Pearson was caught for 39. Douie (55 no) went to a well played half-century and accompanied by Will Johnson (11 no) put on 45 for the third wicket as the Typhoons ended up on 144-2 off their 20 overs. Pick of the Lewdown bowlers was D Dogerty with 1-13 off 4 overs.
In reply Lewdown lost some early wickets, but H.Williams (55) and D Fogerty (16) kept the pressure on the Yelverton bowlers as they steadily nudged the Lewdown total towards Yelverton's. Williams was sixth player out for a well played 55 and the Lewdown innings closed on 139-7 when the overs ran out. Will Johnson (2-17) and Harry Dunlop (2-26) were the stand out bowlers for Yelverton.
Yelverton U13 Typhoons v Plymouth Peverell U13s
YELVERTON'S U13s fell agonisingly short against their Plymouth counterparts in an exciting game at Langton Park. Plymouth's total of 100-7 was built around innings' of 25 by Claire Varcoe and Steve Colmar. Will Johnson took 2-21 for the Typhoons.
In reply, Ben Pearson with 18 could only find support from skipper James Douie with 13 and the Typhoons lost wickets at regular intervals. When Pearson was fifth player out it was left to Matt Adams and James Watt with four needed off the last ball, Watt only managed to score two as the Typhoons fell short by one run.
Yelverton Hurricanes U11 v Cornwood Girls
UNBEATEN this season the Cornwook Girls asked the Hurricanes to bat. The Hurricanes first pair (Dan Farnham and Ben Jones) batted extremely sensibly and took the score to 220 after 5 overs. Second pair Thomas Douie and George Hillson took the total on to a commanding 256 after 10 overs.
Ben Dunlop and Max Pamplin started to attack the bowling and punish the bad ball - they put on 56 in five overs and Yelverton were 312 after 15 overs. The final pair (Ben Grove and George White) took the score to 350 before losing two wickets in the last over to Cornwood Girls' Devon bowler , Rosie Jones. The Hurricanes finished on 337 and only lost 3 wickets.
In reply Ben Dunlop bowled both Cornwood openers with his first two deliveries. From then on Cornwood struggled to get their total significantly above 200. Yelverton rotated their bowlers and a four wickets fell to George White, Max Pamplin, Dan Farnham and Ben Jones.
Cornwood Girls ended on 196 and the Hurricanes won by 141 runs. Yelverton's best bowlers were Ben Grove (4-11) and Ben Dunlop (3-11).
