THE fourth of the South West of England Winter Foursomes Golf competition, sponsored by City Plumbing, Vaillant, Plymouth Tool Hire, Vickery Holman and Footjoy, was played at Yelverton, on Sunday in cool but calm conditions.

Sally Hicks-Beach, and partner Jason Pollard (Stover) played well to beat Yelverton's Kevin Blaber and partner Wayne Tulley (Boringdon Park) 2 and 1. Sally's daughter Jo was a beneficiary of a walk-over with partner Duncan Arnold (Hele Park). Ashley Moon (Okehampton) and his brother Martin (Yelverton) had a close match against Paul Selley and Andy Thompson (Yelverton) and were one down after 9, but won the next three holes, to win 2 and 1.

Bigbury pro Tracey Loveys, and partner Amy McSweeney, had a close match against Darren Corbett and Niven Penprase (Yelverton). They were never ahead in the match, finishing the 18th all-square, and won the 19th. Paul Hendy and Mark Blaber (Yelverton) had a close win over Andy Frankum and Ken Ware (Crediton), winning one up. Chris Gill, and Ryan Pope (Exeter) beat Yelverton's Gary Hawking and Karl Eastwood. John Bristow and Roger Lobb (Yelverton) played well to beat Dan Rosevear and James Smith, who struggled giving 12 shots to their opponents. Lobb and Bristow were three-up with three to play, but on the 19th Lobb and Bristow won with a 4 net 3.

The quarter finals will be played on Sunday, March 21, along with the quarter finals of the plate competition. The pros in the bottom half of the draw include Hele Park's Duncan Arnold v Okehampton's Ashley Moon, and Yelverton's Chris Gill will play Yelverton amateurs Roger Lobb and John Bristow.
