Okehampton Colts 8 Sidmouth Colts 10 IN a closely fought encounter Sidmouth struggled to get sufficient ball to unleash their dangerous backs. Okehampton?s forwards worked tirelessly both in set piece and loose. Paul Lawrence had a good game on the flank scything down the ball carriers and catching good line out ball. Nicky Martin and Chris Searle made the hard yards with all of the pack recycling the ball well. The home backs however rarely looked dangerous with the exception of full back Matt Dennis who unlocked the Sidmouth defence with his pace, timing and angles. He nearly made the try line on two occasions but support wasn?t close enough to keep the ball going forward for the try. Both back lines were committed tacklers so real chances were scarce. Sidmouth opened the score with a converted try. Stewart Down replied with a penalty to leave the score 3-7 at half time. Going down the hill in the second half Okehampton pinned Sidmouth into their 22 for extended periods. Only an individual effort from Gary Sizmur with a chip and chase could turn the defence for a home try. Despite pressure and two penalty chances Okehampton could not add to their tally. The home crowd were expecting the win with the clock running out but Sidmouth found a gap, ran from their 22 to cross half way and then took a penalty from 30 m to win the game on the final whistle.
