Wadebridge RFC U14s 29

Tavistock RFC U14s 19

GUSTING winds at the exposed St Kew Highway venue cramped Tavistock's open play and allowed Wadebridge to make full use of their stronger and larger forwards in this hard fought contest.

Wadebridge opened the scoring with a try delivered in the corner from a strong fast player in the early stages of the game and were to score a second before Tavistock adapted their play.

Tavistock were not downhearted and took advantage of Wadebridge's indiscipline by allowing them to be constantly penalised. An infringement on the Wadebridge line brought a penalty try to place Tavistock on the board.

Sam Northmore and Jake Johns for the visitors adopted the run through style with the wider space available to the backs. Sam scored two tries including a three quarter pitch length sprint through four defenders and Jake was unlucky to be stopped short of the line.

The pack outscrummed their weight disadvantage and continued to show good work in the rucks against the strong and mobile Wadebridge forwards. Ryan Nichol was in evidence with quick possession of the loose ball, whilst Kyle Maslen, Sam Pluckrose, Martin Budden and Dominic Dewson were performing in the heart of the action.

Injury took its toll in the closing minutes to reduce Tavistock to 13 players which allowed Wadebridge the additional space to score another try.

Full back Aidan Mason continued to defend well and to use his speed to draw the opposing defenders

A slippery ball was not cleared and the home side obtained possession and a score.
