EARLIER this month at Okehampton Golf Club saw the men's three ball open, this was well supported and the weather helped!

The winning visitors team from Dartmouth, R Dunn, R Barrett and E Pillar, scored a tremendous 80 points. In second place from Yelverton were M Moon, N Selleck and P Hendy with 79pts, and third were C Barnes, C Coles and P Newman from Churston.

The home prizes were won by M Hill, S Hill and K Cornwall with 83pts, second were R Camies, A Mason and M Gardner, Oke and Padbrook with 81. Third were M Hooper, B Fishliegh and R Prouse with 80. Seventh were C Sturgess, R Reid and N Thomas.

This Saturday was the Barnes Cup fourball better ball Stableford. Again the field was full and the competition keen.

Kevin Rice and Phil Griffin won the Barnes Cup and division one, with 47 points and a better back nine, from Martin Cox and Dave Harwood, also 47; third were Roger Slee and Ray Piper with 45 and fourth Kevin Cornwall and Malcolm Hill with 44.

In division two it was won by Dan Curtis and Will Searle with 45 pts, second Tim Knight and Simon Hern with 43, and a better back nine than Dave Turner with the same score. Fourth were Phil Hobbs and Kevin Harding, also 43.

Even though all the matches of division three, in the President's Trophy, have not yet been played, Okehampton Ladies have secured their place in the semi finals by having a total of five wins, with 83 and a half points, and so cannot be beaten. They played their last match away at Bigbury and Lin Atkinson had a great win and Lynn Hazelton managed an away half - these points gave the team the total needed. It was great news for this small ladies' section. Even better is that there is every chance the Sheelah Creasy team can qualify for their quarter finals, they had a convincing home victory against Thurlestone on Monday, with Sue Glanville, Maureen Howe, Gladys Thatcher, Eileen Piper, Janet Hatch and Lorna McCurrach each having an excellent win.

With only one home match to play they need a win to take them through. Also the ladies league team are very close to qualifying for their finals - a wonderful achievement for the club.

On Wednesday the ladies played a Stableford incorporating the qualifier for Warren Crocus finals. Lorna Rolfe had a handicap reducing round of 39pts to go through for the bronze division with Sally Griffin, who also had a cut with her 37. In third place was Jenni Hutchinson with 34.

The silver qualifiers were Rachel Spry who had a better back nine than Marcia Jones both scoring 32pts; third was Penny Deakin with 31.
