CHILDREN at an East Cornwall primary school are learning to scale the heights, thanks to the creation of a special climbing wall in their playground. The completion of the all-weather playground canopy and climbing wall at Harrowbarrow Primary School was helped along by building giant Rok. Members of the Rok team from Plymouth last week joined teachers, pupils and governors at the primary chool to mark the special occasion with an official opening ceremony. The climbing feature on the south wall was the final addition to the project. The colourful bolt-on pieces that make up the wall were donated by the Rok team giving the children a new playtime activity. The £130,000 project means pupils can play in all seasons under the specially constructed cover which protects the playground. The canopy acts as a weather shield but also allows natural light to flood through the white roof down onto the play area. Mark Tamblyn, Harrowbarrow's head teacher said: 'The building has already had a significant impact on school routine. Pupils no longer have to stay in when it rains — there are no more wet playtimes in classrooms. 'We are very grateful to Rok for donating the pieces for the climbing wall which has further enhanced the wonderful facility and added an injection of colour to an otherwise plain wall.' Bruce MacDonald, Rok Plymouth Area Leader, said: 'We are delighted to have been involved with this fantastic project which means the court can now be used all year round — not only by the school but also by the local community. 'I hope everyone enjoys using the facility including the 'Rok wall' which we were happy to donate to the school.' l Pictured with the Harrowbarrow Primary School pupils from left to right: Peter Lee, chairman of governors, Frank Fletcher, community governor, Annika Connolly, Rok local customer leader, Darren Hexter, site manager, Alan Coulter, Rok commercial leader, Mark Tamblyn, head teacher and Mark Goodright, head of PE.
