A NEW high wire course, indoor climbing wall and archery range have been opened to the public at Roadford Lake Outdoor Active Centre.
Keith Bungay, chairman of Southwest Lakes Trust, opened the facility last Thursday and said the success of the project stemmed from the Environment Agency's 'Enjoy Water' strategy through a partnership between South West Lakes Trust, South West Water, Sport England, the Environment Agency, funding agencies and the Friends of the Trust.
Guests included Cllr Jeremy Yabsley, chairman of Devon County Council, mayor of West Devon Cllr Donald Horn and mayor of Tavistock Cllr Phillip Sanders, along with Mike Johns from Defra and Tim Coventry from Sports England, organisations that helped fund the project.
The 30ft ten-pole new high ropes system has two aspects —the first is aerial trekking that allows the public to turn up and 'have a go' and the other is the developmental aspect which will be more suited to groups.
Visitors were also able to have a go on the new solar powered leisure craft at Roadford Lake that takes them from the Lakeside Café across to the outdoor centre.
