RESULTS for the Tavistock Tennis Club varied in the league last week with some close matches.

Of note were the men?s A team which came close to a first win with a draw, the D team having a good win and the juniors? 2nd team an outstanding win in Div 2 over top of the table Plympton.

Results for Week 4: Seniors: Men?s A team drew 5-5 against Ivybridge B; a match with some hard fought sets; best performance by the A team to date. Sean Jefferson/Ray Hinton v their first pair; 6-7, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. 2nd pair; 6-3, 7-5.

B team lost 4-7 at home against Whiteford Rd A. Bernard Mowle/Eirian Jones v their 1st pair; 6-4, 4-6, 7-5: v 2nd pair; 1-6, 6-1, 1-6. Peter Rodgers/Matt Salisbury, who played well in his first match, v their 1st pair; 4-6, 4-6: v 2nd pair; 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.

C team lost 4-7 at home against St. Budeaux C. John Jackson/Rick Read v their 1st pair; 1-6, 6-2, 6-3: v 2nd pair; 2-6, 6-2, 3-6. Mo Jayarajah/Damian Heard v their 1st pair; 4-6, 3-6: v 2nd pair; 2-6, 6-2, 4-6.

D team won 6-3 at home against Torpoint B. David Isaac/Bill Sparks v their 1st pair; 7-5, 6-4: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. Mike Jefferies/Steve Fletcher v their 1st pair; 7-5, 7-6: v 2nd pair; 5-7, 6-7.

Ladies? A team drew 5 -5 at home against St. Mellion A. Tric Locker/Tori Cunningham v their 1st pair; 3-6, 6-1, 2-6: v 2nd pair; 1-6, 7-6, 6-2. Sue Parsons/Tric Mowle v their 1st pair; 2-6, 3-6: v 2nd pair; 6-3, 7-6.

B team lost 1-8 away against Whiteford Rd who fielded a strong team. Sue Hughes/Liz Loosemore v their 1st pair; 0-2 sets: v 2nd pair; 0-2 sets. Anne Bruce/Babette Jackson v their 1st pair; 2-6, 0-6: v 2nd pair; 6-2, 4-6, 3-6.

C team lost 5-6 away to Devonshire B. Jenny Robins/Di Kersey v their 1st pair; 6-1, 2-6, 6-7: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Claudine Sparks/Barbara Watson v their 1st pair; 1-6, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Juniors- 1st team lost 27 - 52 at home against Whiteford Rd. Russell Rice v their 1st player; 0-6, 2-6. James Martin/Ashley Rice v their 1st pair; 4-6, 7-6. James v their 2nd player; 2-6, 4-6. Russell/Ashley v their 2nd pair; 1-6, 7-5.

l The club is still hosting a series of trials and training sessions on Saturdays at 5pm for ?Team West Devon? as part of the Devon Youth Games, 2003, with finals in Exmouth, Saturday, June 21. Any youngsters interested, in year 5 or at primary school, come along accompanied by an adult and report to Tania Belcher.
