A DARTMOOR clapper bridge near Princetown has been restored for the third time in its history by the National Park Authority.

The bridge spanning Blackabrook near Fice's Well, about a mile from Princetown, was swept away in 1873 and was restored some years later. In the late 1970's it was destroyed again and remained in a dismantled state until July this year.

The bridge has now been restored, after the five stones forming a central pier and two clappers were lifted from the bed of the river and replaced.

The work was carried out with permission of HM Prison Dartmoor and was funded by the Dartmoor Preservation Association in memory of former membership secretary Harry Davies.

Visitors can see the bridge from the public footpath which leads from the B3357 to Fice's Well.
