A FASCINATING talk on the past, present and future of Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum will be given at the next meeting of a local history group.

Okehampton and District Local History Society will welcome Julien Parsons to their meeting in the Ockment Hall on Wednesday March 9 at 7.30pm.

Mr Parsons heads the team of curators and documentation staff covering collections of antiquities, ethnography, natural history and decorative and fine arts at the museum.

Next month, the history society will be joining with Okehampton and District branch of the Devonshire Association to give an exhibition of town archive material which includes postcards, photographs and other memorabilia from the extensive collection of local historians Hilary and Mike Wreford. The exhibition will be at the Conservative Club on April 13.

Last month, a member of the society, Sean Lehni, who has a vast collection of vintage cars, gave a talk entitled 'From Horses to Horsepower'.

Meetings of the society are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm, usually in the Ockment Hall at the rear of the Ockment Centre on North Street. Non-members are welcomed to meetings, at a charge of £2 per person. New members are welcome, and anybody interested can contact secretary Malcolm Francis-Lang on 01837 840158.
