CHURCHES Together in Okehampton have presented BBC Radio Devon's Air Ambulance Appeal with a cheque for £540 after a church service with a difference in October.

BBC Radio Devon's Matt Woodley was presented with the cheque by the Rev Stephen Cook of All Saints Church, the Rev Darren Pike of Okehampton Baptist Church, and the Rev Mike Davies of Inspiration Church.

Almost 600 people packed into the Paulo's Circus big top in Simmons Park to see 'Risky Living' — a show designed to get the Christian message across in a fun and informal way, including clowns, street dancing and even knife throwing!

Mr Davies said: 'The event was a fantastic success. The churches paid for the cost of putting the event on, and the circus supplied the big top and their staff free of charge.

'We decided we didn't want the church to have the money, and being a fair distance from a major hospital, we know the air ambulance is something very close to people's hearts here in Okehampton.'

BBC Radio Devon's appeal has so far raised more than £100,000 towards the target of £600,000 which will help buy a new air ambulance for Devon.
