CHURCHES in Okehampton are uniting to welcome people into worship as part of ?Back to Church Sunday?. ?Back to Church Sunday? originally began an initiative in a diocese in Manchester, but has spread to become a national event. This year, Christians Together in Okehampton, the umbrella organisation for the town?s churches, is taking part for the first time this Sunday. The Rev Mark Thomas, chairman of Christians Together in Okehampton said: ?There are often people who have stopped going to church for one reason or another, some people might have moved into the area but have not got around to finding a church to attend yet. ?It is just a little nudge to encourage these people and extend a special welcome to them.? Mr Thomas said invitations had been sent out to people in the Okehampton area with all the details of services. Mr Thomas said all the churches in Okehampton were taking part this Sunday: All Saints Parish Church (Church of England); Fairplace Church (Methodist and United Reformed Church); Inspiration (Church of the Nations); New Life Church; Baptist Church, St Boniface?s Roman Catholic Church and the Quakers.
