FOR the past eight years, Tavistock United Reformed Church in Russell Street has hosted a Christmas Day dinner and party for anyone who wanted to go along — but this year they were unsure whether it would be possible to host with the major roof works taking place on the building.

However, organisers have decided to go ahead with the event, although it will only be a meal that is on offer this year.

The meal will take place on Christmas Day from 12.30pm until 2pm in the Lower Deck Hall.

There will be no charge and TASS will be providing free local transport if needed.

Helpers will be needed on Christmas Eve from 8pm to set out tables and chairs and will also be needed on Christmas Day to look after the guests, serve and clear up at the end.

The Rev Roger Cornish said: 'We are pleased to be able to put on a Christmas dinner again this year.

'It is usually a very happy day with plenty of good food and cheerful company.

'We hope to see familiar faces as well as new — young or old.

'Anyone who would like to come is very welcome.

'There is also a service at 10am to which all are welcome.'

Booking is essential, even if you have attended before.
