READERS of the Okehampton Times might sometimes be forgiven for despairing of human nature when they see yet another article on anti-social behaviour, desecration of graves, thefts, joy-riders, vandalism . . .
I would like, however, just to try to redress the balance and celebrate the tremendous goodwill that exists within our community, that spirit of Christmas which lasts 365 days of the year.
Everyone at the Children's Hospice is deeply grateful to so many amazing Devonians for their continuing support, to the volunteers who work at the hospice; our many Friends' Groups who organise events and man stalls in all weathers; our supporters who undertake so many amazing challenges, which are all intended to raise money to sustain the vital work of Little Bridge House.
Our Children's Hospice is unique in providing a very special service to life-threatened and terminally-ill children and their families; as they face impossible reality, being alongside them in bereavement and beyond, helping them to ensure that they can make the most of their children's short and precious lives. In the absence of any government funding, we rely totally on people like you. Without you the Children's Hospice would not exist.
There are stars on earth as well as in the sky at this time of year! I would like therefore on behalf of over 1,000 people who have benefited from the services of Little Bridge House this year, to thank everyone for their tremendous support, their kindness and sheer hard work, and wish you all a very happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.
