AN EVENING of musical mayhem is on offer next week, as a Tavistock Youth Café music project hosts a fundraising Christmas gig.

A number of talented bands from the area will be taking to the stage at The Wharf in Tavistock on Tuesday, December 18 to raise funds for the Zephyr music project.

The project is run by youth support worker Vicki Lloyd and voluntary youth worker Shaun Smith, and involves music tutors James Young, Shaun Smith, Jack Lewis and Andrew Clarke teaching 11 to 19 year olds how to play guitar, bass and drums and encouraging them to perform in open mic and band nights.

The project was set up five years ago and has grown into a sustainable project due to the dedication of volunteers and continuous fundraising.

Through the project, young people gain confidence in a safe and relaxed environment, meet other musicians and form their own bands.

The youth café tutors are volunteers which enables the project to charge only £2 for a lesson.

The Christmas gig, Zephyr Live, will see bands such as 3's A Crowd — the Zephyr project music tutors, Dad Dancing, Arch Bishops of Tavistock and the Eden Project taking to the stage to entertain audiences.

As well as all the music, there will also be a cupcake sale and a raffle, with the top prize of a guitar up for grabs.

Tickets for the event, which starts at 7pm, cost £4 for one person or £7 for two.

Tickets can be bought in advance from The Wharf or can be bought on the door.

All the money raised on the evening will be put back into the youth café project to purchase new and better quality equipment for teaching and live music nights.
