CHRISTIANS from across Tavistock are uniting in a week of continual prayer for the town this month, leading up to the festival of Pentecost on May 11. From midday on Sunday May 4, until 9am the following Sunday, a prayer room will be used all day and night at Abbey Chapel, next to Tavistock Post Office. People from different churches in the area will join to ask God's blessing and wisdom for the local community. Chairman of Tavistock Area Christians Together, the Rev Jeff Moles, said: 'Some local churches have already held 24/7 prayer days and found them inspirational. 'We expect an even richer spiritual encounter as we join together in this historic setting.' Also, each evening of the week, there will be shared worship in a local church at 7.30pm. The venues are Sunday May 4 — at Tavistock Methodist Church; Monday May 5 — at King's; Tuesday May 6 — at Abbey Chapel; Wednesday May 7 —at St Andrew's, Whitchurch; Thursday May 8 — at Tavistock Parish Church; Friday May 9 — at the United Reformed Church and on Saturday May 10 — at the Friends' Meeting House. Bedford Square will be filled with song at 9.30am on Sunday May 11, in a Pentecost celebration which remembers the excitement of the first Christian converts in Jerusalem. This open air joint worship will be supported by the UNITE children's choir which draws from churches across the town. l Pictured right, church leaders outside the historic Abbey Chapel, a centre for united prayer all next week.
