KELLY Choral Society and Orchestra will join with Kelly College Choir to present three choral pieces for their Christmas Concert in Tavistock Parish Church on Saturday.
Two of them are light, jolly pieces by Henry Purcell — 'Come Ye Sons of Art' and 'Hail! Bright Cecilia', whilst the charming third piece, 'The Mistletoe Bough', is a fairy tale set to music composed by the conductor, who is also Kelly College's director of music, Andrew Wilson.
The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets may be bought on the night for £5 (free for under 18s) at the door, or in advance from members of the society.
Kelly Choral Society is an 80-strong choir of adult singers who tackle a variety of mostly classical pieces: recent renditions have included Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah and Vivaldi's Gloria.
Concerts are performed three times a year, when the choristers are complemented by professional soloists. The society is always pleased to welcome potential new members, particularly tenors and basses.
Having perhaps enjoyed the forthcoming concert, anyone thinking of joining might like to come to next season's rehearsals, without commitment.
Practices take place in Melvin Hall at Kelly College on Thursdays from 7.45 to 9.30pm with the first in 2002 on January 10, when work will start on Mozart's Requiem Mass.
Further details may be obtained from membership secretary, Gill Smith (01822 618225) or chairman, Tony Jenks (01822 615353).
