A SMALL contingent from Tavistock Swimming Club travelled to Millfield School?s 50m pool on Sunday to compete in the Street and District Sprint Meet along with over 30 other swimming clubs.
Jake Chinn, Michael Best, Christopher Ralph, Laura Radgick, Caroline Tuck, Kirsty Best, Tamar Preston, Rebecca Mills, Rachael Kelly, Alice Warnett and Amy Warnett managed to clock 25 personal best times between them.
Head coach Paul Chinn said the swimmers had all gained valuable experience, especially those who had not competed previously in a 50m pool, with many achieving outstanding personal best times. Jake Chinn sliced 12 seconds off his previous 50m backstroke time and 4.5 seconds off 50m freestyle and Laura Radgick had an excellent swim to take 5 seconds off her pb in 50m fly.
Michael Best swam strongly to gain a 4.5 second pb in the 50m freestyle , as did Caroline Tuck in the 50m fly to achieve a 4 second pb.
Christopher Ralph was the first Tavistock swimmer to reach a final in the 13/14 yrs 50m breaststroke in a personal best time, going on take sixth place in the final. Rebecca Mills also swam a personal best time to represent Tavistock in the final of the 13/14yrs 50m butterfly, finishing in eighth place.
The final of the 11yrs 50m breaststroke saw Tavistock represented again, this time by Kirsty Best who went on to take fourth place in the final.
