THE Chinese Ambassador and his wife took time out recently to visit both Kelly College and Kelly International Study Centre (ISC). Ambassador Zha and Minister-Counsellor Zhang toured the college with Chinese students from the ISC, before having an English roast beef lunch with students, staff and governors. The college was presented with books on China for the library by the ambassador, and in turn headmaster Mark Steed presented him with an engraved Dartington bowl and a picture of the college to commemorate the visit. After proceeding to the ISC, the ambassador presented a trophy for academic excellence to be awarded annually to the best student in the ISC. This year it went to student Tina Ding. The ISC was established as part of the Kelly foundation in September 2005. The Kelly ISC runs a one-year pre-sixth form language course providing a secure foundation in the skills and vocabulary required to meet the demands of A-level study. Mr Steed said: ?The opening of the Kelly International Study Centre is yet another example of Kelly College being a forward-looking school. ?International cooperation is key to the success of our pupils in the future and this facility will ensure that the international pupils that come to Kelly will have a high standard of English and are equipped to integrate fully into college life.?
