CHILDREN’S charity CHICKS is hosting an open day at its retreat in Brentor on Friday, May 27.
CHICKS provides free respite breaks for disadvantaged children aged between eight and 15 from all across the UK. The charity hosts the respite breaks at its three retreats in Devon, Cornwall and Derbyshire. The Devon retreat in Brentor is home to the charity’s head office and was purchased by CHICKS in 2006.
Regional fundraiser Sarah Roberts said: ’The open day is to give everyone in the local area the chance to come along and find out more about what we do. You can have a tour of the retreat, ask the staff any questions you might have and enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake.’
The children the charity supports come from a variety of backgrounds. Many are living in poverty, have been victims of abuse or are young carers for relatives. THe one thing they all have in common is need for break away and the chance to make positive childhood memories. On a CHICKS break, the children can have fun, relax and make new friends.
Entry to the open day, between 2pm and 6pm, is free and all are welcome to attend, with no need to register in advance.
