SHOPPING and baking are just some of the activities that the children of Exbourne Pre-School have been involved with in the last week. Children from Exbourne Pre-School visited Waitrose in Okehampton on Tuesday November 20 and learned all there is to know about supermarket life, from what goes on in the shop to what goes on behind the scenes. The visit was planned as part of their weekly curriculum. Each week the children study a different book and at the time of the visit they were reading ?Days of the Week?, when Tuesday happened to be ?shopping? day. Armed with a list of ingredients to make tasty cakes, the children were given a tour of the supermarket and shown where and how lorries bring goods into the shop. They also were shown the displays of fresh fruits and vegetables before having a drink and some fruit refreshment in the staff canteen. After a successful shop, the children helped to bake the cakes the following day and then took them home for some well-deserved tasting. Catherine East, chair of the pre-school, said: ?Exbourne Pre-School is a small, friendly setting held in Exbourne Methodist Church Hall. ?We are one of the lucky few, in that we have sole use of the church hall, so we are able to equip the premises for every day use without having to put everything away at the end of each session. ?We also have a high staff-to-child ratio. ?Exbourne Pre-School offers a bright and colourful atmosphere with good quality equipment, toys and a safe play area outside.? Daily sessions are available at the pre-school as well as a parent and toddler group once a week and twice weekly lunch clubs.
