UNSEASONAL spring and summer weather meant fewer entries than last year in the flowers, fruit and vegetables classes of Whitchurch Produce and Handicraft Show, but the popularity of all other classes was maintained.
This, the sixth year since the show was reintroduced, also saw an encouragingly high entry from children in the area, with much support from Whitchurch Primary School.
Prizes were presented by Mrs Angela O'Shea Warman, headteacher of Whitchurch Primary.
Prize winners: Goodland Cup for flowers and foliage class, Kate McCormick; Margaret Clark Trophy for floral art, Kate McCormick; Mary Williams Cup for cookery, Kate McCormick; Anthony Trophy for preserves, Pauline Anstead; Gidley Cup for vegetables, Dave Perkins; Lister Trophy for handicrafts, Jill White; Clark Bond Cup for photography, Warren Whiston; Leach Trophy for overall show winner, Kate McCormick; Diamond Jubilee Trophy for overall winner gentleman exhibitor, Edwin Anstead; Sheila Plumb Cup for highest score in men only classes, Edwin Anstead.
In the children's classes the award for the highest score in the age 7 and under class went to Kathryn Stalker and the award for highest score in the 8 to 11 class was shared between Samuel Lawrence, Isabelle Cousins and Caitlin Scaysbrook.
The committee expressed thanks to everybody who worked so hard behind the scenes to make the show a success.
