TIMES are changing and cheques too. The Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland often work wonders.

How about this one? The smile on the face of the Okehampton Rotary Club's president (Times, June 27) might suggest a deliberate mistake is about to appear as he presented a cheque for £500 to Dr Paul Nielson for the New Okehampton Hospital Appeal.

Very few banks will accept a cheque unless the words and the figures correspond but, one wonders how many of your readers noticed something unusual when seeing the photograph last week: Twelve Hundred Pounds equals £500:00 and Oh dear, the cheque is a year old. Naturally, readers should not fear for the money is safe in the bank account of the New Hospital Appeal Fund.
