AN exciting programme of food demonstrations has this week been announced for next month?s Tavistock Food and Drink Festival. The big event, on July 30 and 31, is now only four weeks away and master chef Peter Gorton from the Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy has gathered an impressive array of chefs and celebrities to take part in the festival. Peter said: ?I have just put the finishing touches to my festival demonstration programme, which includes celebrity chefs Jacques Marchal, the Michelin-starred chef who used to own the Chez Nous Restaurant, Paul Da Costa Greaves from the Galley Restaurant, and Philip Leach from the Coombe House Hotel and Restaurant. ?David Jenkins, head chef of Brown?s Hotel, and lecturers James Knight and Mark Pilgrim from Exeter and Plymouth Catering Colleges will also be part of the demonstration programme.? Peter said the Tanner brothers, well known for their appearances on BBC TV?s Ready, Steady, Cook programmes, will be with him throughout the first day of the festival. ?Their presence will be a huge attraction to all those foodies who will be coming to the festival,? said Peter. ?It?s a real compliment that they are committing to the festival, bearing in mind their increasingly busy TV commitments.. ?I am also delighted to have received very generous support from the Waitrose supermarket in Okehampton. They are supplying all the food for the cookery demonstrations, as well as for the Kiddies? Corner food-tasting programme. ?The big advantage for me is that Waitrose have a wide range of truly local produce available to choose from,? he said. Tavistock Food and Drink Festival will take place in a large marquee in Bedford car park. In addition to a huge range of local food and drink exhibitors and chef demonstrations, there will be a jazz café at which visitors to the festival can enjoy delicious refreshments made with locally produced goods, while listening to a live jazz band. Extra parking is being provided at Crowndale, with a regular free shuttle bus operating between the car park and festival.
