WHEN it comes to baking Charlie Roberts from Morrisons Tavistock is definitely on the rise after being selected for the supermarket?s bakery apprentice scheme to study for a NVQ level two in bakery. Charlie, 24, will join 146 other bakery apprentices throughout the country, and more than 2,000 bakers in Morrisons stores nationwide. The apprentice scheme, now entering its tenth year, has helped develop more than 500 employees to become trained bakers. Charlie will be trained at his local store as well as receiving four weeks? tuition at a leading bakery college in London. Charlie, a former student at Callington College and Plymouth College of Further Education, said: ?I saw the bakery apprentice scheme as a great opportunity to learn a craft skill, and gain a qualification at the same time. ?I?m looking forward to all of the new and interesting things I will learn over the next few months about baking differing kinds of fresh bread from scratch and putting it all into practice.? Andy Shepard, general manager at Morrison?s Tavistock, said: ?A career in Morrison?s in store bakery is a very attractive and rewarding job. Our apprentices will be working in an environment that?s fast paced, providing the freshest bread for our customers. They?ll have no problem putting their new bakery skills to good use.?
