AN EAST Cornwall band is storming the south west with its surf inspired songs — and soon hopes to strike up a relationship with a London management company.
The brothers write their music based on their interests in surfing and travelling, and are influenced by bands such as Alt-J, Swim Deep, Dry the River, Simon and Garfunkel, Bombay Bicycle Club, Biffy Clyro, Foals and Ben Howard.
Tom, 18, and Charlie, 16, who attended Callington Community College, have also been heavily influenced by singer songwriter Jack Johnson, with whom they are close family friends. The family has enjoyed annual trips to Hawaii with Jack while growing up and have also stayed with Jack's brother a number of times.
All these musical influences on the boys has helped them to produce their own style, which they class as alternative/indie/folk/rock
Both Tom and Charlie play the guitar and sing, with each taking the lead vocals/guitar in different songs, with the other harmonising.
Charlie said: 'Our first batch of songs were mainly influenced by the sea as we come from a surfing family, so it was instinctive to put in our biggest inspiration. We try not to categorise ourselves by just writing about our hobbies, so we have focused more on our past and stories from other people.'
The boys have spent the summer playing at various venues across the south west, gaining experience in performing. At a gig in Tavistock, Atlantic Bridge were spotted by socialite photographer David Bailey, who invited Tom and Charlie to his studio to have their portraits taken.
The band has also received interest from london management company, Anglo Management, which is now providing the boys with advice, with a view to signing them in the near future.
They are about to begin recording songs but are still keen to play in as many venues as possible.
Tom said: 'We get a massive buzz from gigging and writing music which is our main passion. The idea of creating new songs is what drives me to keep writing.
'When Anglo Management contacted me and said they wanted to work with us, we both got straight back into writing new songs. We are currently working with them and are going to be bringing an EP out hopefully in the near future.'
These two major factors are catapulting the band's music career and Charlie and Tom hope to continue their success.
The boys currently have one track out, 'Autumn', which can be found on YouTube and Soundcloud. Atlantic Bridge will also soon be announcing dates for its 'Seamless Dreams' mini-tour, across venues in the south west.
