DOUSLAND resident Roger Mechan has completed his fourth trek through Europe, on this occasion to raise money for St Luke's Hospice. The 67-year-old former Devon and Cornwall Police superintendent has so far trekked more than 1,000 miles and raised nearly £7,000 for various charities. In June, he added another 150-miles to his portfolio after completing the pilgrim route through Portugal and Spain to the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela. At a recent street collection held in Bedford Square, Tavistock, £149 was collected which will also be donated to St Luke's Hospice. No expenses or other deductions were take from this amount.
