A ZIMBABWEAN charity founder will be taking part in a service at Tavistock Methodist Church at the end of the month.
Jenny Hensman is the founder of Mind The Gap-Africa which works in Zimbabwe with children orphaned by Aids or abandoned in a country that still faces many difficulties. Jenny and her helpers run and support several houses where the children can live in a safe family environment.
Jenny will be taking part in the service on Sunday October 31 at 10.45am, and will be joining a church lunch afterwards when people will be able to talk to her about her work and hopes for the future. All are welcome.
Minister of Tavistock Methodist Church the Rev Jeff Moles and his wife Liz have known Jenny since she was a teenager and will be visiting her in Zimbabwe next year, during a three-month sabbatical.
To raise money for their air fares, they have been undertaking a series of sponsored walks between the Methodist churches in the area. This has taken them as far afield as Princetown, Mary Tavy, Sydenham Dameral and Yelverton. Their final walk will be between Bere Alston and Tavistock.
Jenny's work depends on support from the UK, and Tavistock Methodist Church has been raising money to support her for several years.
On Saturday October 30 at 7pm, the young people of the church are hosting a quiz evening to which everyone is welcome. Entry is £3 which includes a pasty. All proceeds will go to Mind The Gap-Africa.
