Devon seconds B

Brixham seconds v

Yelverton seconds

YELVERTON seconds came away with a winning draw following Saturday's encounter with Brixham II at Langton Park.

It was the home side who batted first in hot and dry conditions.  Andy Taylor and Jason Degg opened the batting for the Bohemians, but after hitting two early boundaries, Degg was adjudged lbw.

Academy player David Ackford, aged 14, joined Taylor and the pair put on 28 for the second wicket before Taylor was caught in the slips for 14.  Next man in Gerry Keen helped Ackford add a further 29 to take the score to 70.  Ackford fell for a well crafted 26 caught low down by the keeper.  Accurate Brixham bowling kept the scoring rate down to 80-3 at the half way stage.  Next man in Will Chapman, aged 17. seized the initiative with some good running between the wickets as he and Keen added 33 in quick time.  When Keen was bowled for 35, Chapman assisted by veteran Mike Chetwynd added 52 for the fifth wicket and when Chetwynd (25) departed with the score on 155, a further 62 for the sixth wicket with Matt Tamsett (28 not out).

Chapman was the last wicket to fall, bowled having a slog for a well played 53.  The Bohemians innings closed on 218-6 off their alloted overs with S Dwyer Brixham's most succesful bowler with 2-30 off 13 overs.

Brixham started their reply slowly with Yelverton's opening bowlers Geraint Heath and Chris Pearson bowling a good line and length.  Both bowlers induced errors from both the openers Matthewman and Fowler but none went to hand and the pair took their partnership past 50.

The partnership had reached 73 when Fowler chipped a catch to Will Chapman off Degg for 30.  New batsman S Thomas helped Matthewman add 54 for the second wicket but with the score on 127 Chetwynd induced Matthewman to mistime a slog-sweep and he was caught by Degg at deep midwicket for 65.

Chetwynd then bowled Thomas next ball for 21 to leave Brixham on 127-3 with their overs running out.

C Barron perished for 2, caught and bowled by Chetwynd and new pair N Way and A Edwards were left.  The returning Pearson took two wickets, Way caught at long-on by Heath and Dallow caught behind first ball by wicket-keeper Jez Croymosan.  This left Brixham on 157-6 and they took the safety first route to finish on 201-6 when the overs ran out.

Chetwynd finished with 3-29 off 8 and Pearson 2-44 off 13.
