SOME key positions changed hands at the annual meeting held of Tavistock Athletic Club last week.
Chairman Neil McClung had to stand down due to work commitments after only a year in office. He is succeeded by Dan Bates. Nikki Sheehan, secretary for the last four years, was also not standing for re-election and that post went to Allan Herdman.
Tim Gilroy is the new treasurer as Peter Witcher retired from office after long and valuable service. Peter has been associated with Tavistock AC for more than 14 years throughout which the club has grown from strength to strength.
Leading the tributes to Peter, Robin Musgrave gave examples of his contribution over the years, both in terms of his exploits as an athlete - he was once cajoled into a 4x400 men?s relay team only hours after completing the gruelling Haytor Heller - and in service on the committee, particularly as treasurer.
Peter was presented with gifts and lifetime membership as tokens of appreciation of what he has done for the club.

Meanwhile the juniors were in action at Dawlish last weekend with meeting three of the five-meeting series of Sportshall athletics. This popular winter event brings together most of the top Devon athletic clubs with junior sections who compete against each other in various disciplines and in a variety of junior age groups.
Tavistock, who were winners of this series two years ago and narrowly pipped into second place last year, hold a commanding lead this time around after the third meeting. They have a total of 1,954 points, followed by North Devon with 1,536 and Exeter with 1,421.
With a team of more than 30 representing the club there are too many individual results to mention - each athlete can compete in up to three different events - but here is a flavour of what the Tavistock team achieved.
