IT is all change at Calstock Parish Council as Cllr John Roberts takes over over the role as chairman from Cllr Steven Jaggard. It would have been expected that the deputy would become chairman, but the deputy, Cllr Ian Kirk, died in March after a short illness. Cllr Jaggard said at the full council meeting recently: 'It is slightly awkward this year as one might have expected Ian Kirk to take over as chair but as he has sadly passed away I will have to ask for nominations.' Cllr Dick Hoile nominated Cllr Roberts saying 'I nominate John because he has been in the chair previously and did a very good job at it, and with the Neighbourhood Plan coming up, I think he would be a valuable asset.' Cllr Roberts works as a professional planning agent and within the council is keen on practical conservation and protection of vulnerable habitats, as well as supporting safety initiatives and transport issues. After being voted into the position, Cllr Roberts said: 'A vote of thanks must go to Steve for the robust and diplomatic way he has led the council. If I get half as much support as he deserves, I will be grateful.' Glenys Rooker was nominated and voted in as the new deputy chairman for 2014/15.
