IT seems (Daily Telegraph, June 12) the Conservatives are going back on their promises made to remove subsidies for new on-shore wind turbines within six months of being elected. This promise made by Michael Fallon and others encouraged many in the Westcountry to vote for them at the general election. There is no doubt that they are under pressure from the heavily subsidised wind turbine industry to go back on those commitments. We in the Westcountry have suffered from this plague of turbines which is ruining the landscape and people's lives. There are more reliable and less destructive ways of generating more renewable energy. The Government must hold firm to the commitments it made to voters and change the policy now.
