A WEST Devon bus service that has been running for 30 years has been axed.

The 97 bus ran on Fridays from Buckland Monachorum to Tavistock, calling at Crapstone, Yelverton, Dousland, Walkhampton, Horrabridge and Whitchurch. It left Buckland at 9.20am and Tavistock at 12.10pm.

The service was operated by Plymouth Citybus, but a spokesperson for Devon County Council said Citybus had decided to surrender the contract.

?It went out to tender, but unfortunately the prices that came back were far too high. This has happened on several routes in the county,? she said. She added that the good news was that people could still travel the route, but would have to change at Yelverton. ?There are several services a day, six days a week. We would have continued the 97 if it had been at the right price,? she said.
