Ivybridge Colts 23
Okehampton Colts 14
THE Okehampton pack had their Ivybridge counterparts on the rack for the first 20 minutes.
Front rowers Scott Simpson, Brad Hudson and Mike Panton took several balls against the head in the scrums and what ball they did win scrum-half Richard Friend caught his opposite number or the No8 with the ball.
Jumpers Tom McGratton and Will Heard disrupted the Ivybridge lineout well and with lack of position Ivybridge struggled to get out of their own half and were conceding penalties – which were not put away by Okehampton.
Outside centre Rory Honeychurch ran a good line from outside the 22 to take a short pass from Carl Poynton to cut through between the Ivybridge centres but was tap-tackled by the full-back and fell short of the try line. Ivybridge tried to move the ball away but pressure from Okehampton wing Carl Goodall and flanker Luke Crocker forced the ball and the latter grounded for the try.
The Ivybridge pack started to win some clean ball in the last 10 minutes of the first half for their wing to score, soon followed by a penalty for Ivybridge to turn round 8-5 up.
Okehampton started the second half like the first but this time Carl Poynton put over two good penalties for the visitors to take the lead again. They should have continued to play in the same way but some poor kicks and wrong options gifted Ivybridge the ball to run in three tries in the last quarter to a Poynton penalty.
