TAVISTOCK will join towns across the country in celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight, which starts on Monday (March 1).
The theme for the fortnight is 'A Taste for Life', which is a reference to the range of tasty foods which qualify for the independent Fairtrade Mark label.
An exhibition at Tavistock Library throughout the fortnight will show how the mark secures a fairer deal for people in developing countries who grow food such as coffee, chocolate, honey and bananas.
Customers at some local cafés will also get a chance to try out fairly traded coffee or tea.
Other events will include a tea party with Fairtrade chocolate cake. For more information contact Hilary Boot-Handford on 01822 841185.
And West Devon Green Party has arranged a public discussion on the subject 'Fair Trade: the way forward' during the fortnight.
This will take place at Kingdon House, Kilworthy Hill, Tavistock on Wednesday, March 3 at 7.30pm, with all welcome to attend.
Andy Pratt, former Oxfam regional organiser and now a Green Party member, will give a brief talk to open the evening's discussion.
