A NEW and exciting opportunity for creative performers is coming to Okehampton at the start of March. Janice Elson, owner of Rock Hen's Coop music store in Okehampton's Arcade, has helped to organise a new 'open mic' night that will be held on the first Thursday of every month. An open mic night is a chance for performers, of any age or skill level, to share their work in a supportive atmosphere where they will be actively encouraged to perform. The open mic will be for all kinds as performance, not just music. This could include anything from monologues, poetry and comedy. Janice said: 'The open mic night will be a chance for all kinds of performance. 'It will be nice to encourage local people to perform and given them a chance to have the experience of performing live. 'We want to create a supportive atmosphere where people will be actively encouraged0. There are no age barriers on either end of the scale.' The first night will take place on Thursday March 6 at 7.30pm in the sports bar of the King's Arms in Okehampton. There will be no entrance fee — however, people are invited to make donations towards the running costs of the evening, should they wish to. Janice Elson can be contacted at Rock Hen's Coop on 01837 659249 for further information.
