SCOUTS from North Tawton will soon be splashing out and buying new equipment after they were awarded a BT Community Champions grant. The telecommunications company introduced Community Champions in recognition of their employees who work additional hours to volunteer within the community. Rowena Ford, an employee of BT and volunteer at North Tawton Scout Group was awarded £200 by the scheme, with the money now going towards new storage for the club. Rowena said: ?A year ago I applied and got £150 for North Tawton Primary School, and they sent me another e-mail saying I could apply again. ?The rugby club is where we hold all our scout meetings, but we have to store all our equipment in a shed which we have to pay hire and insurance for. ?We want to buy a lorry back for safe and dry storage for things like our camping equipment. ?It?s going to cost between £1,000 and £1,500 so this is the first bit towards it?. North Tawton Scouts offers lots of fun and adventure through activities such as camping, and the scouts are now hopeful they can raise funds for the new storage facility.
